This is addressed to all those UPSC aspirants who seek to look beyond UPSC to be able to make a real difference. You may not have made it through to your dream careers yet and maybe feeling stuck in a limbo, trying desperately to find something worthwhile to do for the society and the country, and at the same time sustain financially. I too fall under this category, and the idea is to connect with people who are in a similar predicament so that something constructive can come out of it.
Many of us have been profoundly transformed as a result of the knowledge we have had to acquire during our preparation ordeal. We have started noticing the reality hidden under the layers and sometimes even those that have been bare right before our eyes. We have felt like social misfits at times, having trouble interacting with our not-so-well-informed friends and cousins, who additionally know nothing about the magnanimous scope and difficulty of the exam. We all feel agitated by the manner in which the system operates, leaving the most vulnerable in the society helpless and powerless.
Therefore, the objective of reaching out to such fellow aspirants (or ex-aspirants) is to be able to share mutual experiences and possibly even brainstorm together to positively utilize this brain pool, which comprises of well-informed and socially sensitive individuals committed to making a change in the social ecosystem. It will be a waste if such talent in this country is not efficiently deployed for greater good. We all agree that our society at various levels desperately needs genuinely motivated, principled and inspired minds to try and solve many of the pressing problems. Isn’t it a sheer waste if people like us choose to solely work for material gains in multi-national companies, well aware of all the shortcomings around us? Is doing something for those who are most desperate possible only via civil services? Should our intent not allow us to look beyond the walls of UPSC, if we really want to do something real? Doesn’t it simply irritate us to see that the system is filled with insensitive, corrupt and indifferent people, who are cut out from the reality?
Let us not give up.
Let us join together to make the best out of our intentions and abilities.
Let us get inspired by those who have tread the path seldom taken. -
